Grinding Gears
In this situation, the clutch pedal and gearshift work normally. But when you move the gear shift into gear and release the clutch, a grinding noise is heard and a vibration can be felt through the gearshift. This symptom typically means one of the following:
- There is an internal problem in the transmission if parts within the transmission are worn or damaged
- The clutch is worn or needs adjustment
- The shift linkage needs to be adjusted
Because the problem generally gets worse over time and can cause severe damage to your transmission, we urge you to take your car, truck, or SUV to your local AAMCO Center for the AAMCO External Diagnostic Service for manual transmission vehicles as soon as possible. AAMCO Center technicians are the experts in all types of transmissions, manual or automatic.
